Let God Be Glorified

As a child, I wondered at the phrase, "Give God glory!"  In my understanding, God had glory and I could not understand how I could give it to Him!  As I was praying this morning for some of the many problems for which I have prayed repeatedly, I fell into the human error of telling God how to answer!  There is one problem I have that I felt if I just had something bigger, better, I could take care of the problem myself!  The Spirit spoke to me, "Use what you have!"  Immediately I began to see how God had answered in the past, in Scripture and in my life.  He never gave some great miraculous provision but used what was available to bring the answer.
He asked Moses, "What do you have in your hand?"  It was a simple rod, but when used in obedience of faith, it became a serpent, which in turn became again the rod Moses needed.  So many times, when faced with insurmountable situations, the command came again to Moses, "Stretch out the rod in your hand", and the need was answered; the waters of the sea parted, water came from the rock, or meat was provided.
When Mary was faced with a larger crowd than the supply of wine, she asked Jesus for help.  Jesus knew she had large vessels and water, and told her servants to fill those vessels with the water.  God changed the water to wine.
When Gideon was faced with the anger of the Midean army for his rebellion in bringing together Isrealites as an army, God's answer was not more, but less, not great supply of weapons, but use what was available, lamps and pitchers!
As I meditated on what the Spirit was saying, these verses came to me.  I Thessalonians 5:16-18  (ESVUK) 16  Rejoice always, 17  pray without ceasing, 18  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
When Jesus came to this realm, His coming and His appearance did not please the religious rulers.  If He had responded to Satan's temptation in casting Himself down from the highest point of the temple, the rulers would have been impressed and listened to Him.  But He would have lost the Light of Truth revealing the Father!  Jesus had nothing to justify Himself that man would approve.  He just moved in obedience to the Father.
If we hesitate to do what God has asked us to do for lack of money or help, what has become god to us?  Is more money the answer?  Is more time, more space, more people?  Simple obedience gives God the glory.
Faith in God is unreasonable.  The very definition of faith is illogical.  Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)  1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.   Mary told her servants to do what Jesus told them to do, for her faith was in Jesus, not in how the wine would be supplied.  (John 2:4)
Is your circumstance something you can "fix" with more money?  Does it need a miracle?  You may have the beginning of a miracle right in your hand.  Let God get the glory.
