Hebrews 4:12-13 (NASB) 12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.
There is nothing so divisive as the opinions we hold. Opinions form because we have the choice to be in control of our thoughts and reactions. I am dismayed at how often those thoughts are critical and judgmental concerning everything. The foods we eat, what foods we will eat, what we will read and what we will wear and what others are doing. The list goes on and on. No matter what the subject, we will have an opinion. The problem, opinions are hard to shake and they can be contagious, also. The Pharisees had an opinion concerning Jesus and no matter how many times they tested him, and what answer He gave, they were determined to get rid of Him. Our culture has picked up on that opinion and many are seeking to be rid of Him.
One thing I know--our opinions will not change or limit God. What He intends to do, He does. His nature is the same, His love never fails, His holiness is without measure and His power, wisdom and mercy are endless. The marvel is that His purpose is to make us in His image. Mankind has been trying to make a god in their image and they do not have the power to produce one that is constant.
Nothing can so bind and limit your growth and development as opinions that will not yield. Let the Word abide in you richly, feeding your spirit and soul with the Truth of God and revealing Jesus to you and let your control over your thoughts, desires and opinions be open to the cutting of that sword. You will be surprised at the growth and maturity the Spirit can bring as you let the Word abide in you.
